Enbridge budget billing plan

The Enbridge Budget Billing Plan makes it easy to budget your natural gas expense.

The winter months are regularly cold and frigid in Ontario. The December-February months are when you’ll see yourself spending most on your natural gas bills as these months require the most gas usage. Enbridge knows that heating your home can be expensive, which is why they created the Enbridge Budget Billing Plan (BBP). The  Enbridge Budget Billing Plan is designed to relieve you of the financial stress that may arise during this time of year. This plan keeps money in your pocket during the winter season by avoiding the dramatic spikes on your winter statements. Under this plan you pay the same monthly fee each month, so you always know what to expect.

How it works

The Enbridge BBP allows the homeowner to pay a set monthly fee which is calculated using the natural gas usage information from previous years. Enbridge will monitor your account throughout your usage and make any necessary adjustments. The Enbridge Budget Billing Plan starts in September and runs through July. You can enroll into the program at any time.

September – Estimated payments

September is when the Enbridge Budget Billing Plan begins. If you were a member in this program during the previous year you will automatically be enrolled for the following year. September is when the payments are set according to your natural gas usage history and the forecasted gas rates and weather patterns. During the Fall season your payments will create a credit balance due to lower usage in these months.

Winter adjustments

Adjustments to the payments may be made during the winter season if they are necessary. Adjustments are made to keep the customer on time with their payments.

The cold winter months are when you’ll see your credit balance turn into a debit balance on your statement. This is because the winter is when you are using more natural gas.

July – Plan ends

Moving closer to July, your payments should balance with your real gas usage and your Enbridge BBP balance is close to $0. If there is any remaining balance in July, it will appear on that month’s statement.

If your real gas usage was higher than your monthly payments, you will be at a debit balance. If you have paid more than your actual gas usage you will be at a credit balance. Any credit balance will transfer over to your next statement.

August – Pay per use

The Enbridge Budget Billing Plan is on pause for the month of August. The plan ends in July and restarts in September. During the month of August you are billed for the amount of natural gas you use.
