How to Shop For New Water Heater

When you shop for new water heater, you need to consider several things. Water heater technology is changing fast. New hot water heater is a great way to improve your home’s value and reduce your energy usage.

To make sure that you make the best choice when shop for new water heater, there are four things that you need to consider: the tank type, tank size, and its overall efficiency.

Water Heater Type

There are different types of water heaters to choose from, including conventional water heaters, power vented, electric and tankless water heaters. Conventional gas water heater has improved in recent years. They now have thicker insulation and motorized dampers to reduce heat loss. Power-vented water heaters use indoor air, but use a motor. The vented motor is mounted on top of the heater and used to exhaust the flu gases. By using exhaust from the home’s existing venting system, these heaters save energy and promote improved air quality and pressure within the home. Power-vented water heaters use PVC and go through the side of your home. Tankless water heater provides hot water on demand. It only heats water when needed.

Water Heater Size

When you shop for new water heater, size is one of the most important things. Water Heaters come in many different sizes, to facilitate families with different needs. Typically a 40 gallon tank is for 1 to 4 people, a 50 gallon tank is for 4 to 6 people, and 60 gallon tank is for 6 to 8 people.

Efficiency

Once you have decided what type of water heater best suits your needs, determine which water heater in that category is the most fuel efficient. The best indicator of a heater’s efficiency is its energy factor, which is based on recovery efficiency, standby losses, and cycling losses. The higher the energy factor, the more efficient the water heater.

How to tell if your Central Air Conditioner needs refrigerant refill

Freon is the term used by most everyone to refer to the refrigerant, or coolant, used in many things, from home air conditioner, cooling system in your car, to refrigerators.

So, the air conditioners need refrigerant to cool the air. If there is not enough or too little refrigerant, it will cause air conditioner blow warm air. Technically, refrigerant can last a lifetime, but certain circumstances can cause issues with the coolant supply. It can be due to age of the air conditioner, its wear and tear or accidental damage.

Here are the signs your AC is low on refrigerant:

Your AC is taking longer than normal to cool the home. Refrigerant absorbs the heat in your air. Without enough of it, your air conditioner can’t absorb enough heat to cool the air well.

Ice has built up on copper lines from a/c to indoor coil. If coolant levels are low, the air conditioner’s evaporator coil tends to get too cold, which causes cool refrigerant to flow back the coolant line. This is what causes the ice buildup.

Unusually high electric bills. An air conditioner that’s low on refrigerant has to work much harder to cool down your home, causing the unit to consume more energy.

Should You Leave AC On For Your Pet?

It is summer and that means rising temperatures and heat waves. Pets are just as prone to heat related complications as us. Pet-owners are always recommended to let even their outdoor pets into the house during times of extreme temperatures.

When the temperature and humidity rise, it becomes crucial to keep our pets comfortable and safe.  Animals cool themselves by panting, a process of exchanging warm air from their lungs for the cooler air outside. This can not be happened when it is hot and humid, which leads to increased risk for heat stress and exhaustion. Leaving the air circulating with fans or, better yet, leaving the air conditioning on will help to keep pets cool and healthy.

Most pet owners and veterinarians recommend leaving an air conditioner on for your pet. When we can’t be home with our animals we want them to be safe and comfortable. If you’re not comfortable about leaving the air conditioner on, then leave a fan running to help in improving indoor air circulation. Basements are typically cooler than the rest of the house, so if your basement is a comfortable place for your pet to be, having them spend time down there during a heat wave is also an option. Close the blinds, shades or drapes, and keep the heat generating lights and appliances turned off. Remove most of the carpets/rugs from your pet’s area to allow them a space to lie on bare tile or wood floors. Also, pets should always have access to fresh water, as they can get dehydrated.
Keeping your pet cool in the summer heat is an important part of responsible pet ownership. Know your pet and how well they deal with heat.  Most pets do just fine in hot weather as long as they have plenty of water, shade and air movement, especially inside pets.

DeMark Home Ontario takes care of air conditioning needs for our customers and their lovely pets.

What to Know Before You Buy Air Conditioner

If you’re looking to buy air conditioner, there are many factors which you should take into consideration before you make your decision.

Get the right capacity for you

A common misconception would be that bigger means better, but that isn’t the case. An air conditioner that is too big would cool your home too quickly without removing the humidity. This would leave your home feeling clammy, which is not ideal for anybody. If the air conditioner is too small then it won’t keep your home cool enough. Knowing what size of an air conditioner is needed for your home is essential information to know before you buy air conditioner.

Choose the unit with the highest SEER rating in your price range

SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratios; this rating measures the cooling efficiency of an air conditioner unit. It essentially tells you how much of your money is going towards cooling your home and how much of it is wasted. The higher the SEER rating, the more efficient the AC unit, and the more money you save on your energy bill. So, before you choose your next AC unit, find one with the highest SEER rating in your price range before you make your choice and buy air conditioner.

DeMark Home Ontario provides energy efficient air conditioners to their customers at a low and reasonable price.

Consider a two-stage air conditioner

A two-stage air conditioner is a more high-end air conditioner unit which features two compressors and fans and allow for maximum efficiency and comfort in your home. A two-stage air conditioner costs more than a single-stage air conditioner unit.
Ensure that the contractor has all the proper licensing requirements and credentials

Before you buy air conditioner, take into consideration who will be installing the AC unit and whether or not they are fully certified to be doing their job. When hiring a technician you should find one who is a member of the HRAI, is certified by the TSSA  and 313 license. The contractor should also be bonded and insured against liability.
